1966 Grinch? Now that was a mean, scary bastard. He was a crusty old fuck who hated society so much that he only came off his shitty frozen mountain to commit crimes and terrorism out of spite.
Bennyhoo Cumberland Grinch comes down from his mountain to buy groceries.
You can round the edges off a character to make them more “relatable” or whatever, but you also run the risk of losing what defined them in the first place. The end result is bland and generic.

Blizzard has said repeatedly that things like a character’s sexuality are settled on early in the development process of their backstory.
They just don’t want to word of god ‘X is a lesbian’ they’d rather have it come out naturally.
And the coversation in that story was as natural as you can get; two old friends wondering about what a normal life could have been like. A moment of nostalgia. People have conversations like that every day.
It’s natural. It’s normal. And dropping the ‘jack had a boyfriend’ as a normal interaction is a hugely important and normalizing thing.
